Puerto Princesa To El Nido

So you’ve made it to the beautiful island of Palawan and can’t wait to cruise around the stunning limestone islands of El Nido’s magical Bacuit Archipelago! But how do you get there? Well you may not realise it, but unlike many other popular destinations in the Philippines, there are no convenient internal flight options to El Nido (unless of course you book a luxury offshore resort with exclusive access to the area’s privately owned airports!), therefore the majority of travellers to El Nido transfer from Palawan’s main airport in Puerto Princesa.

From Puerto Princesa to El Nido, the main transfer option is by overland shuttle van which, depending on the length of rest stops, takes approximately 6 hours drive.

Unfortunately the quality of service on offer for the journey can range significantly, both in terms of reliability and comfort. Rather than provide out-dated information, we’d highly recommend checking online forums or contacting your accommodation in advance to request local up-to-date knowledge on the most reliable and recommended companies for your transfer.

Don’t delay in booking your transport however, as these services get booked up quickly in advance, especially during the peak season (public holidays and typically March to early June), therefore the earlier the better!

The same also applies to accommodation in El Nido. Compared to other popular destinations in the Philippines, there isn’t a huge range of accommodation in El Nido and therefore the best hotels, resorts and guesthouses get booked up quickly. So don’t delay and plan ahead with our tips below!

Where To Stay In El Nido

Once you’ve made it to El Nido, where should you stay? Well firstly, you have to decide between staying in El Nido town area or instead at one of the quieter stretches of beach nearby.

El Nido town is not the prettiest of towns unfortunately, but provides a good jumping off point for boat trips and offers a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and bars.

However if it’s peace, tranquility and beautiful sunsets you’re after, then we’d highly recommend considering accommodation in one of the quieter beach areas nearby such as Caalan Beach or Corong Corong.

Spectacular sunsets from Corong Corong, El Nido

Our pick? We stayed at the quiet waterfront village of Corong Corong, just a few kilometres south of El Nido town. We liked the fact it didn’t have any loud bars or parties going on late into the night, however what made it most special for us was its position for the most beautiful island sunsets! Most nights we were treated to spectacular sunset views and we’d recommend this area just for this alone. (Tip: You don’t get sunsets like this from El Nido town due to its coastal position being partially blocked by Cadlao island to the west, however Corong Corong is only a short tricycle ride away to enjoy them!)
